What Is Aloe Vera Inner Leaf (Juice/Extract)?
Aloe vera inner leaf gel contains acemannan — a complex polysaccharide with immunomodulatory, gut-soothing, and antiviral properties. Outer leaf preparations contain aloin, which is a potent anthraquinone laxative that should not be present in therapeutic gut supplements. Quality aloe vera products are decolorised (aloin-free).
How It Works: The Science
Acemannan activates macrophages (via mannose receptor binding), stimulating TNF-α, IL-1, and IL-6 in controlled immunomodulatory fashion. In the gut, acemannan forms a protective mucilaginous layer on the mucosal surface, reducing direct contact between irritants and epithelial cells. It also stimulates fibroblast production and wound healing.
Primary Mechanism
Acemannan immunomodulation, gut mucosal coating, laxative (anthraquinones)

Dosage Guide
Effective Dose
50–200mg acemannan / day or 50–100ml juice
50–200ml inner leaf juice (decolorised, aloin <1ppm) or 50–200mg acemannan extract daily. Avoid preparations containing aloin (outer leaf) for long-term gut use — classified as a harsh laxative.
Safety Profile & Side Effects
Inner leaf gel is safe. Outer leaf/aloin causes cramping and diarrhoea — avoid. Aloe may lower blood glucose — monitor in diabetics. Not recommended during pregnancy.
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Take It
Those with IBS, IBD, or general gut irritation and inflammation. A gentle, food-grade soothing supplement for the gut mucosal lining.
