What Is Cordyceps Militaris?
Cordyceps was traditionally harvested as a parasitic fungus growing on caterpillars in Tibet — now cultivated as Cordyceps militaris on grain, which is more accessible, sustainable, and affordable. It has been used by Chinese Olympic athletes since the 1990s. The active compounds (cordycepin, adenosine, beta-glucans) support mitochondrial energy production.
How It Works: The Science
Cordycepin (3′-deoxyadenosine) is structurally similar to adenosine and modulates mitochondrial AMP/ATP ratios, activating AMPK (the cellular energy sensor). This increases mitochondrial biogenesis and fat oxidation, explaining improved endurance. Cordycepin also increases NO production and may stimulate testosterone production via StAR protein.

Dosage Guide
Effective Dose
1000–4000mg / day
1000–4000mg/day of Cordyceps militaris powder or 500–1000mg concentrated extract. Cs-4 (fermented Cordyceps sinensis) and Cordyceps militaris are the two most studied forms for exercise performance.
Safety Profile & Side Effects
Well tolerated. Avoid in autoimmune conditions (immune stimulation may worsen). Potential interactions with immunosuppressants and anticoagulants.
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Take It
Endurance athletes, older adults wanting improved aerobic capacity, and those interested in natural energy support without stimulants. Particularly beneficial for those at altitude.
