Noopept (GVS-111)
Also known as: N-Phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester · Omberacetam
A Russian peptide nootropic 1000× more potent than piracetam by weight. Raises BDNF and NGF acutely. Human evidence is limited but mechanistically compelling.

What Is Noopept (GVS-111)?
Noopept (GVS-111) is a synthetic peptide developed in Russia as a more potent piracetam analogue. It is hydrolysed in the body to cycloprolylglycine — an endogenous neuropeptide with AMPA receptor potentiating and neurotrophic-stimulating activity. Unlike racetams, it is active at much lower doses and crosses the BBB efficiently.
How It Works: The Science
Noopept potentiates AMPA receptors (increasing synaptic glutamate signalling and LTP — long-term potentiation, the cellular basis of memory). It upregulates BDNF and NGF mRNA in the hippocampus and cortex — supporting neuroplasticity. It also enhances acetylcholine sensitivity in cholinergic neurons.
Primary Mechanism
BDNF and NGF upregulation, AMPA receptor potentiation, acetylcholine sensitisation

Dosage Guide
Effective Dose
10–30mg / day
10–30mg/day, typically 10mg twice daily. Sublingually absorbed for faster onset. Cycle: 1.5–2 months on, 1 month off to prevent receptor downregulation.
Safety Profile & Side Effects
Limited long-term human safety data. Legal status varies by country. Not approved as a pharmaceutical in the West — sold as a research chemical in many jurisdictions.
Who Should (and Shouldn't) Take It
Experienced nootropic users who have exhausted evidence-based options (bacopa, alpha-GPC, lion's mane). Approach with appropriate caution given limited regulatory oversight.
